Tonga’s Soccer Club Champion departs for the OFC Champions League 2023
A squad of 18 players and 4 officials departed the Fua’amotu Airport last week on their way to Samoa to represent Veitongo Football Club as part of the OFC Champions League 2023 Qualifying Stage.
The team left Tonga with high spirits and with a goal to proceed on to the main draw of the OFC Champions League. Head Coach Timote Moleni is confident with the preparation they’ve put on for the tournament. With the help of TFA Technical Adviser, James Selby Veitongo will make sure that it will not be a walk over for some of the more fancied teams.
Veitongo flew to Samoa via Nadi and will be accomdated close to the field of the Football Federation Samoa where they will continue their preparations their first match on Saturday 18th.
Their opening match will be against “Tuppapa Maraereanga FC” the Club League Champion from the Cook Islands Club League Champion. Veitongo will then face Samoa’s Club League Champion, Lupe Ole Soanga FC or famously known as the Lupe on their second match the following Tuesday. Veitongo will play their final match on Friday 22 against American Samoa Club League Champions, Ilaoa & To’o FC
Veitongo FC last competed in the OFC Champions League on the same qualifying stage on January 2020. However, the tournament was suspended in March 2020 after the group stage due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
