Fuel prices have increased across Tonga for the third consecutive month, with diesel exceeding $5 per litre in Tongatapu and reaching $6 per litre in Niuafo’ou, according to the latest fuel price schedule released by the Tonga Competent Authority.

The new prices, effective from 1 June, show diesel in Tongatapu increasing to $5.05 per litre, up from $4.60 in May. Petrol has risen to $4.15 per litre, while kerosene now stands at $4.30 per litre.

The increases were recorded across all island groups.

In the outer islands, diesel prices have reached $5.85 per litre in Niuatoputapu and $6.00 per litre in Niuafo’ou, the highest prices listed in the latest schedule.

The June increase continues a trend that has seen fuel prices rise sharply since March.

In Tongatapu, petrol has increased from $3.05 per litre in March to $4.15 in June, while diesel has risen from $3.10 to $5.05 per litre over the same period. Kerosene has increased from $2.35 to $4.30 per litre.

The latest figures show diesel prices in Tongatapu have increased by nearly 63 per cent since March. Kerosene has risen by approximately 83 per cent, while petrol has increased by around 36 per cent.

Similar increases have been recorded in the outer islands.

In Niuafo’ou, diesel has risen from $3.95 per litre in March to $6.00 per litre in June, while petrol has increased from $3.90 to $5.05 per litre.

The Competent Authority’s monthly fuel schedule reflects the cost of imported fuel and transportation to the various island groups.

Tonga imports all of its fuel requirements, making domestic prices sensitive to movements in international fuel markets and shipping costs.

The latest increase follows sharp rises recorded in April and May, with June marking the third consecutive month of elevated fuel prices across the Kingdom.
