Ambassador Liu Weimin Presents Mala‘ekula Royal Tomb Project as Gift to Tonga

H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin officially handed over and opened the Tonga Peripheral Area of the “Mala’ekula Royal Tomb” Improvement Project to His Majesty King Tupou VI.

In his remarks, H.E. Liu expressed his honour in contributing to the preservation of Tongan culture and heritage through the restoration and enhancement of the Royal Tombs. He noted that the project, featuring beautifully landscaped gardens and public spaces, will serve as a new cultural landmark in Nuku‘alofa and a major attraction for visitors

The project is presented as a gift to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Constitution of Tonga and the 27th anniversary of China–Tonga diplomatic relations, both of which coincide with the celebrations beginning in the first week of November.

Ambassador Liu also reaffirmed China’s commitment, through the Belt and Road Initiative, to working hand-in-hand with Tonga to elevate their partnership to an even higher level.
