Tonga Tala’s Quest for Gold- South Pacific Games

Tonga Tala has assembled in Queensland in preparation for the South Pacific Games and will travel to Honiara over the weekend. In their last outing at the 2019 Pacific Games, they claimed Silver, losing to the Cook Islands in the gold medal match. However, Tonga Tala has improved immensely since 2019 and has their eyes set on the Gold.
Hulita Veve assumed the role of captain for Tonga Tala in 2022 and has led the team to many victories, including winning the 2023 PacificAus Sports Netball Series in April.
Ranked 8th in the world, Tonga Tala qualified and debuted in the 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town. Veve believes they can win their first-ever gold medal in netball. Speaking on ABC Pacific radio, Veve and the team are aiming for gold but also acknowledge the need to put in the work first.
The Cook Islands won the last gold in 2019, and Fiji has won the most golds in the history of the Pacific Games with 7. Tala comes into the tournament as a formidable team, and their first test will be against the reigning gold medallists, who are in their pool.
