Jane Seymour Taufa: Tongan Thrower Claims State Shot Put Crown in California

Jane Seymour Taufa, a sophomore at the College of San Mateo (CSM), has solidified her status as one of California’s premier community college athletes by capturing the 2025 3C2A State Championship in the women’s shot put. Competing on her home turf at College Heights Stadium, Taufa delivered a remarkable throw of 45 feet, 10¾ inches (13.98 meters), surpassing her previous personal best and extending her own state season lead. This performance secured her the state crown by more than three feet over her nearest competitor.

Throughout the 2025 season, Taufa has demonstrated consistent excellence:

  • Bryan Clay Invitational (April 2025): Achieved a then-personal best of 13.35 meters (43 feet, 9¾ inches), leading the state rankings.
  • Coast Conference Championships (April 2025): Secured first place with a throw of 13.17 meters (43 feet, 2½ inches).
  • 3C2A Northern California Championships (May 2025): Won the event with a mark of 13.18 meters (43 feet, 3 inches).

In addition to her shot put success, Taufa has shown promise in the discus event, recording a personal best of 38.95 meters (127 feet, 9 inches) at the Chabot Finale.

Taufa’s achievements have been highlighted in the San Mateo Daily Journal, emphasizing her contributions to CSM’s track and field program. Her journey from a bronze medalist in 2024 to a state champion in 2025 highlights her dedication and growth in the sport.

With her impressive trajectory, Jane Taufa is not only making her mark in collegiate athletics but also serving as an inspiration for aspiring athletes from the Tongan community and beyond.

Jane Seymour is the second eldest daughter of life long team manager of the Kolofo’ou lions Elioti Taufa.
