Dragons RFC Secure Tongan Star Fine Inisi in Major Signing Ahead of 2025–26 Season

Dragons RFC sign Tongan international Fine Inisi from Moana Pasifika Rodney Parade welcomes Pacific powerhouse as Welsh side strengthens backline firepower

Dragons RFC have officially announced the signing of Tongan international winger Fine Inisi, in a significant move that underscores the club’s ambition ahead of the 2025–26 United Rugby Championship (URC) season.

The 26-year-old dynamic back joins the Welsh outfit from Moana Pasifika, one of Super Rugby Pacific’s most exciting teams, where he earned a reputation as a lethal finisher and relentless attacker. Standing at 6ft 2in and tipping the scales at 95kg, Inisi combines size, speed, and agility — a profile that has made him a standout in the southern hemisphere.

Since making his professional debut in 2022, Inisi has crossed the try line 11 times for Moana Pasifika, often in spectacular fashion. His explosive pace, sharp footwork, and fearless running lines have made him one of the competition’s most watchable talents. On the international stage, he has earned 15 caps for Tonga, including a string of strong performances during the 2023 Rugby World Cup, where his power and experience on the wing drew attention from clubs across Europe.

This move sees Inisi reunited with Dragons Head Coach Filo Tiatia, a respected former All Black and Pacific mentor who previously worked alongside Inisi during his tenure at Moana Pasifika.

“I am thrilled to welcome Fine to the Dragons,” said Tiatia. “Having coached him before, I know the high standards he sets for himself and what he can bring on and off the pitch. He’s a strong ball-carrier, a smart defender, and above all, a humble and hardworking professional. He embodies the values we want at this club.”

Inisi also shared his excitement about making the leap to northern hemisphere rugby and embracing the challenge of a new competition and culture.

“I’m truly grateful for this opportunity,” Inisi said. “Playing in the URC is a big step in my career, and I’m eager to contribute to the Dragons’ goals. My family and I are looking forward to living in Wales, learning new traditions, and becoming part of the community. I can’t wait to put on the jersey and give everything for the team.”

Matt O’Brien, Dragons’ Backs Coach, praised the signing as a major boost to the squad’s attacking depth.

“Fine is a high-calibre athlete. His one-on-one attacking ability, speed, and instinctive play bring a new dimension to our backline. He’ll elevate the competition within the squad and give us more versatility and firepower out wide.”

Born in New Zealand and of Tongan heritage, Inisi’s signing is also seen as part of a broader shift among URC clubs to tap into the growing pool of Pacific Island talent, many of whom are emerging as world-class athletes through Super Rugby and the international stage.

For Dragons supporters, Inisi represents not just a key signing — but a symbol of intent. With his arrival, the team signals a desire to move forward, sharpen its edge, and challenge more consistently among Europe’s elite.

As Fine Inisi prepares to swap the warm breezes of the Pacific for the passionate crowds of Rodney Parade, Dragons fans can expect to witness not just a winger — but a warrior.
