Tonga Police Intensify Efforts Against Illicit Drugs with Successful Raids in Fatai and Fua’amotu

Tonga Police’s Drug Squad has ramped up its fight against illicit drugs, conducting two successful operations in Fatai and Fua’amotu on Friday, 28 February 2025.

In Fatai, officers raided a residence following reliable intelligence, leading to the arrest of a 56-year-old man. The operation resulted in the seizure of 252 packs of cannabis weighing 130.35 grams along with a mobile phone device. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

On the same day, another raid took place in Fua’amotu after reports of illegal drug possession and distribution in the area. During the operation, a 23-year-old woman was caught actively selling and distributing illicit drugs to a 34-year-old female customer, both of whom were arrested and remain in police custody. Authorities confiscated 87 packs of cannabis weighing 515.00 grams, drug utensils, and a mobile phone device.

Tonga Police reaffirmed their commitment to tac-kling illicit drugs and ensuring community safety, vowing to continue their efforts to dismantle drug networks across the country.

Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
