During his recent visit to Australia, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Lord Tu’i’afitu, paid a visit to Geoscience Australia to express Tonga’s gratitude to the staff for their response to the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’apai volcanic eruption that occurred on January 15. The visit also aimed to explore opportunities for collaboration on the monitoring and understanding of geohazards, as the eruption generated a tsunami that reached Australia. Both parties share a common interest in improving their knowledge of geohazards and mitigating their impacts.
